據報道，鯨鯊雖然體型巨大，但它是一種以浮游生物為食、性情溫和的鯊魚，甚至允許人類趴在自己背上“搭便車”。肖恩拍攝的其中一張照片顯示，一只體長達15米的鯨鯊在一艘10米長的游艇旁緩緩游動。其他照片則展現出鯨鯊與人同游的震撼畫面。


肖恩說，他希望通過此舉能引起人們對保護鯊魚的關注。他說，每年有超過7300萬只鯊魚因為魚翅貿易被人類屠殺，這些鯊魚在被割掉魚翅之后被扔回海里，因失血過多死去。目前由于人類的過度捕殺，不少種類的鯊魚已經瀕臨滅絕。肖恩說：“鯊魚處在食物鏈頂端，維護著海洋生態平衡。比起魚翅，活著的鯊魚能發揮更大的經濟效益。”
